Weekly Round-up (August Week 4)

The Head Chef search continues

Two Jareds have joined the competition: Jared Cohen and Jared Grey. You can hear them speak about their past experience and how they think it relates to taking on the Head Chef role in the Sushi Community Call. Both Jareds have a background in blockchain technology.

Be sure to ask any questions you may have about the candidates in the #head-chef-talk channel on the Sushi Discord!

Jared Cohen

Jared Cohen started his career in finance, before switching to advertising, and then moving on to working as a corporate lawyer for six years. He later realized that he is more interested in building and moved on to coding and then focusing on being an executive for various tech start-ups. From there Jared found crypto and was hooked!

Jared C has stated that his focus will be on hiring the right people for the right jobs. He envisions the Head Chef role as overseeing a quality team that he will help put in place to run the Sushi ecosystem.

Find all of Jared C’s links posted in his thread under the #head-chef-talk channel on the Sushi Discord!

Jared Grey

Jared Grey started his career as a computer engineer. He worked as a consultant both with corporate and government contracts. Jared first began wading into crypto in 2015 with some ghost-writing engineering and column writing part time. By 2016 he had made crypto related ventures his full-time focus. One of his notable projects was working as the CEO of a digital asset exchange called Bitfineon.

Jared was an early user of Sushi. He has indicated he was a yield farmer of the Sushi token from the start!

Since February Jared has been working as a consultant for corporations and government entities looking to get into the blockchain environment. One notable consultancy he has done is for a large mineral and precious metals mining company in the US that is looking to tokenize over $9B in assets for lending and other use cases.

Jared has a particular interest in asset-backed tokens on-chain which could be an intriguing area for Sushi to explore and capture.

Parity Technologies Proposes a Sushi Controlled Parachain

Parity Technologies proposes that Sushi create a Parachain on Polkadot. Parachains offer the ability to do “forkless upgrades” which would allow updates to Sushi’s product line without the need to redirect users to new smart contracts. While a forkless upgrade implies some of the safety of an immutable smart contract is lost, it also offers the benefit of allowing Sushi to make modifications to upgrade its products seamlessly. Imagine if Sushi could flip a switch and move all liquidity from its current DEX to Trident, placing all assets into Bentobox automatically. A good idea or a terrible one? You decide!

Sushiswap Parachain
Hi all, I represent Parity Technologies, one of the development houses behind Polkadot, and am a fan and friend of the Sushi community. This is a proposal for a joint effort between the Sushi community and the Parity team to create a blockchain specifically for the Sushi ecosystem. 📚 Summary Sush…

The Benefits:

This would offer Sushi greater exposure to the Polkadot ecosystem – currently Sushi is only on Moonbeam’s Parachain – via its own dedicated Parachain. This could see the growth of volume within Sushi’s product line if Polkadot users are interested in trying Sushi’s dedicated Parachain. Current Sushi users would also be more inclined to test the waters of what Polkadot has to offer.

The Costs:

Parity Technologies has requested 100k Sushi for their team that will be assisting Sushi. Parity Technologies also asks for $1M per year for a 5-7 person Sushi Parachain team that will need to be put together to handle this new addition to the Sushi ecosystem. They have indicated that given the bear market conditions, these costs could be reduced.
